Rabbits are also mammals that are found in numerous parts of the world. They are not rodents. However, they fall into order Lagomorphs. Rabbits are absolutely herbivores and their diet includes vegetables, carrots, herbs and tree barks. They are also very loving and socially interactive animals. Their average weight can be anywhere between 2-11 pounds. At present, there are approximately 45 breeds that are recognized. These animals possess very good memory. Also, every rabbit has a unique identity. Their ears are very sensitive and long. These ears help in temperature regulation as well as can turn in every direction.
Rabbits are capable of making numerous sounds. Their eyes are large and the blind spot is directly ahead in front of the face. Their babies are called kits and they are generally born blind and minus any fur on their body. The babies open eyes in ten days or so. Over a period of a year, a rabbit can give birth to twenty to forty babies. Normally, for reproduction, a rabbit has to be a minimum of 6 month of age.
Rabbits can jump approximately 36 inches and even more. Their lifespan is eight to ten years and interestingly, they can not vomit. Rabbit’s excreta are excellent fertilizer. Other than this, rabbits are quite soft and if exposed to high temperature, they can suffer heat stroke. Another thing is their diet. If given the wrong food, they can die. The meat of rabbit is considerably low in calories, fat and cholesterol.
